SPSP and the United Nations: A Community Hackathon

Over the last few years, a grassroots movement within SPSP has been working with the goal of pushing for greater integration between social-personality psychologists and societal stakeholders at large. These efforts have accumulated in SPSP submitting an application to attain consultative status at the United Nations, which has now been approved. In this hackathon, the hosts will: (1) offer a brief high-level summary of the United Nations, its structure, its efforts to encourage interdisciplinary and cross-academic dialogue, and previous interactions with psychological science; (2) describe what the consultative status means for SPSP and which broad opportunities it offers to the SPSP membership; (3) host a hackathon in which we come together as a community to brainstorm and discuss how to best make use of the opportunities that this provides for SPSP members and society; (4) begin to chart out a path forward and collect ideas to design the formal launch of the partnership between SPSP and the UN which will take place at the SPSP 2024 Annual Convention in San Diego, CA.
