Graduate Student Committee Symposia |
At the 2007 SPSP Conference in Memphis, Tennessee, the Graduate Student Committee hosted an inaugural symposium on the topic of "Advice I Wished I Had Received in Graduate School." To view PowerPoint slides of the presentations, click on the links below.
- John Dovidio (Yale University; Co-Editor, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology) spoke about the publication process, including information to help demystify the process as well as tips for graduate students new to the publication system.
- Peter Glick (Lawrence University) provided firsthand advice about seeking and keeping a job at a small liberal arts college. He offered suggestions for how to tailor job applications appropriately, prepare for campus interviews, balance teaching and community demands while conducting scholarship, go through the tenure process, and maintain strong connections to the field.
- Heather Claypool (Miami University) spoke about effective academic job presentations. She offered advice for giving the most engaging job talk possible.
