Character & Context Editor-in-Chief Dave Nussbaum is moderating “Want to be More Journalistic and Media Savvy? Media and SPSP Members Offer Perspectives, Advice, and Warnings” at the 2017 SPSP Annual Convention and invited Emily Esfahani Smith to share the following message on the blog:

Dear SPSP Community:

I’m a journalist who’s been coming to the SPSP conferences for years as a journalist and writer to learn about your research and share it with a broader audience. (My work has appeared in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, and other publications). This year, I’m incredibly excited to be actually participating in the conference. On Friday January 20, I’ll be part of the panel discussion: “Want to be More Journalistic and Media Savvy? Media and SPSP Members Offer Perspectives, Advice, and Warnings” (Room: 217D, Time: 12.30 pm). It should be a wonderful conversation, and I hope to see you there!

I also wanted to share with you that my new book The Power of Meaning: Crafting a Life that Matters is coming out in January. It’s steeped in social psychology research, and I recently co-wrote an article with Stanford's Jennifer Aaker for New York Magazine's "Science of Us" about some of the themes in the book, "In 2017, Pursue Meaning Instead of Happiness." The piece explores the difference between pursuing happiness and pursuing meaning in life. I’ll be doing a book talk and signing on Friday January 20 at The Twig bookshop in San Antonio at 6 pm (306 Pearl Pkwy). If you can make it, I’d love to see you there!
