The
color green is all around us this week. In addition to spurring your
St. Patrick's Day spirit, it may also spark your creativity. A suite
of four experiments published online today in Personality
and Social Psychology Bulletin
demonstrates that even brief 2-second glimpses of the color green can
enhance creative performance. Stephanie Lichtenfeld of the University
of Munich and colleagues found that this effect occurred without the
knowledge of experiments' participants and that green therefore
creates a very subtle effect. This work could help explain past research suggesting that nature images foster creative thought.
