Applications open today to attend the highly anticipated Workshops at the 2017 SPSP Annual Convention. This year’s program offers seven Workshops, a new session format designed for an in-depth learning experience of practical knowledge and skills for a variety of audiences. To allow for an optimal learning environment, space is limited at workshops, and an application to attend is required. Applicants must be registered to attend the convention. View the complete list of Workshops and apply for one that interests you! Applications will remain open through December 5th, and decisions on selected participants will be sent in late December.
The incoming senior editorial team for the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin consists of incoming Editor Chris Crandall, and incoming Co-Editors Colin Wayne Leach, Michael D. Robinson, and Tessa West. We had a chance to ask Chris about his view of the role of Editor, the strengths of the team, and some of his most formative professional moments. We also asked the Co-Editors about how they became interested in the field, what they consider to be their greatest professional accomplishments, and how they achieve work-life balance.
The Summer 2016 cycle of small research grantees are studying a wide range of personality effects and social behaviors. Their projects investigate the effects of emodiversity on empathy, how people make online dating decisions, meta-perceptions of the police, the impact of microaggressions on health disparities, how connection with physical spaces influences well-being, the relationship between social power and cognitive efficiency, and whether implicit biases affect online dating preferences. We asked each of the grantees about their research, which aspects of their projects have surprised them most, and more.
SPSP’s Student Committee is currently seeking nominations for 2017-2018 positions. Members of the SC organize activities and resources for SPSP’s student members. Serving on the SC is a great opportunity to network and build leadership skills.
