I am pleased to announce that SPSP, as part of its strategic goal to increase the public and scientific impact of our field’s best scholarship, will launch a Government Relations Committee this fall. We seek applications from members interested in advocating for policy and funding at all levels of government, especially in the U.S.

The Government Relations Committee will provide advice and support to the SPSP staff and Member at Large for Outreach/Advocacy. The committee will contribute to the development of strategies, priorities, and mechanisms to help SPSP engage members to support the goals of the committee. The primary focus of the committee’s attention will be on national policy and the federal system of research and development (R&D), whether in the legislative, executive, or judicial branches of government.

Most of the committee’s work will be done electronically and at a committee meeting at the annual convention. In addition, from time to time there may be opportunities for committee members to attend Hill visits in Washington DC. The committee will also liaise with our current partners in the Coalition of Social Science Associations (COSSA), of which SPSP is a governing board member.

Joining the committee requires members to have their doctorate and a willingness to serve a three-year committee rotation. Interested members should complete a brief nomination form by Friday, September 21.

Questions may be sent Chad Rummel, Executive Director, at [email protected], or to Eli Finkel, Member at Large for Outreach and Advocacy, at [email protected].
