Cooper Elected President of SPSP

 

Lynne Cooper elected to serve as president of the world’s largest society of social and personality psychology researchers

WASHINGTON, DC—Lynne Cooper, Curators’ Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri, has been elected the 2018 president of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP). Cooper will serve as SPSP’s president‐elect in 2017 and past president in 2019.                       

Cooper has served in various roles throughout SPSP, including time on the Board of Directors, as chairs of several committees, and as selection chair of multiple awards. In addition, her service in the field is greatly recognized, as she has served in leadership roles for the Association for Research in Personality, the Foundation for Personality and Social Psychology, the American Psychological Association (APA), and others. She has served in many publishing roles, including reviewer, associate editorships and as editor in chief. She currently serves as an editor for APA’s Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.

“In addition to being a well-published researcher, Dr. Cooper brings her extensive involvement in the entire field of personality and social psychology,” said Chad Rummel, SPSP Executive Director. “I’m confident that with her guidance, SPSP will continue to grow as an international organization and thought leader in the field.”

Cooper received her PhD from the University of California at Santa Cruz and her MPH from California State University in San Jose. Her research includes personality, motivation and emotion-regulation; risk-taking and adjustment; relationship dynamics and sexual behavior; and field research methods. She is frequently published in leading journals.
