My research, grounded in self-determination theory, examines the role of basic psychological needs (for autonomy, competence and relatedness) and of autonomous motivation across and within important life domains and their influence on emotions, perceptions, and behaviour. Some of this research focuses on goal pursuit and understanding how and why people set autonomous goals. I am also interested in the internalization of goals and behaviours and its implications for cognitive processing of goal-related stimuli.
