Join a team of three UC Berkeley scientists and a design
team at Facebook working on scientific questions related to emotional
communication, friendship, morality, and social conflict. During this post-doc (start date June 1,
2013), the recipient will be housed in the Department of Psychology at UC Berkeley
and collaborate directly with Dr. Dacher Keltner, Dr. Emiliana Simon-Thomas,
and Dr. Paul Piff. For approximately 2
days a week the recipient will be embedded at Facebook HQ, working with
Facebook designers and data analysts with truly unique data on questions
related to the expression of emotion on Facebook, the formation of friendships,
the spread of empathy through a social network, and the influences of factors
like status, political views, age, and culture on social indicators. We have funding for two years, with a
beginning salary of $44, 340 that includes benefits and a small research
fund. A preference will be for
candidates who have strong quantitative skills and expertise with social
networks and big data, and an interest in social psychology and emotion
science. If interested, please send a
cover letter and CV and a list of references by May 1 to Dacher Keltner (keltner@berkeley.edu).
