Job: Full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in
Psychology

Timeline: Start as soon as possible; fixed-term contract for
one year, with the possibility to extend the post for a further year
Job Description: Drawing on recent work on helping
behaviour, empathy, altruism, and their limitations, the postdoctoral fellow
will mainly investigate psychological factors that cause and constrain human
altruistic behaviour. For that, she/he will independently plan and conduct a
behavioural psychological research programme. Further experimental work at the
neuroscience level may also be a possibility. The postdoc will work in an
interdisciplinary research group, consisting of Prof Julian Savulescu (Ethics),
Dr Guy Kahane (Ethics), Dr Molly Crockett (Social Neuroscience), and Dr Nadira
Faulmüller (Social Psychology).
Selection Criteria: A PhD in psychology (preferable social
psychology) is essential. (A PhD in Philosophy or Neuroscience is acceptable,
if sufficient experience with behavioural empirical research can be
demonstrated. Exceptional Candidates who have submitted their doctoral
dissertation may be considered.) Excellent research skills, i.e. the ability to
independently design, conduct, and analyse behavioural psychological
experiments are required. A strong publication record in behavioural research
demonstrating such skills is highly desirable. Previous work experience in the
field of moral psychology is also desirable, as well as familiarity with related
work in ethics, philosophy and neuroscience.
