The Department of Psychology in the College of Liberal Arts
at the University of Minnesota invites applications for a full-time, contract
faculty position in Social Psychology beginning Fall 2013. Appointment will be at the rank of contract
assistant professor. The initial term of this appointment is academic year
2013/14, beginning August 31, 2013 and concluding May 30, 2014. The appointment is for a fixed one-year term.

Qualifications
Candidates must have completed the requirements for the
Ph.D. in Social Psychology by the
appointment date.
Essential Qualifications are: demonstrated scholarly excellence and
successful undergraduate and graduate instruction. Preference will be given to individuals with
expertise in social cognition, health, and/or personality and social
psychology, and with teaching experience.
Candidates will be evaluated according to the overall
quality of academic preparation and professional experience, evidence of
commitment to teaching and skills as a teacher, and strength of
recommendations.
Successful applicants will contribute to the training of
graduate students. Teaching responsibilities
across 9 months will consist of 5 graduate and/or undergraduate courses in our
core curriculum. One undergraduate
course will include introductory social psychology, which is a large enrollment
course. Graduate teaching might include
social cognition, health psychology, or personality and social behavior. Additionally, the applicant can offer
specialized graduate/undergraduate research seminars tailored to his or her
research interests and expertise, with the specific choice of courses to be
determined in consultation with the Department of Psychology. Course assignments will depend on
qualifications.
Duties/Responsibilities
Successful applicants will also be expected to contribute to
the service needs of the Department, College, and University. The resources of a major research and
graduate training department and its faculty are available to support faculty
members’ work.
Program/Unit
Description
The Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota
consists of approximately 45 core faculty, 1,400 undergraduate majors, and 160
graduate students. The Department offers
advanced training in a broad spectrum of strong programs in both basic and
applied fields, including
- Biological Psychopathology
- Clinical Science and Psychopathology Research
- Cognitive and Brain Sciences
- Counseling Psychology
- Industrial/Organizational Psychology
- Personality, Individual Differences, and Behavioral
Genetics
- Quantitative/Psychometric Methods
- Social Psychology
The Department is housed within the College of Liberal Arts
and has active collaborations with faculty throughout the University, including
those in Neuroscience, Psychiatry, Educational Psychology, Child Development,
Human Resources and Industrial Relations, Radiology, and Human Genetics. The
Department has modern research and office space in Elliott Hall, and faculty,
research associates, and graduate students have access to state-of-the-art
university research facilities in neural imaging, genomics, and supercomputing.
