Dean of the School of Management

Carlow University seeks a dynamic and innovative leader with proven administrative acumen to lead and advance the School of Management to new levels of national prominence.

Carlow University is a comprehensive, women-centered Catholic University located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1929 by the Sisters of Mercy, Carlow is situated in a culturally diverse urban setting neighboring Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh, and Duquesne University. With an enrollment of 2,200 graduate and undergraduate students, both women and men, Carlow is known for its academic excellence, dedication to individual attention, and a commitment to the liberal arts tradition and career development. The School of Management is comprised of approximately 200 undergraduate and 175 graduate students majoring at the undergraduate level in Accounting, Forensic Accounting, Business Management, Information Technology Management, Human Resource Management and Management of Health Services, and at the master’s level in Fraud and Forensics and Business Administration. The school is in candidacy for ACBSP.

The Dean of the School of Management is the principal academic and administrative officer for the School of Management reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Dean will be a member of the Provost's Lead Team, and participate in the decision- making and resource allocation processes of the University. Working collaboratively with the faculty, the Dean will provide leadership in designing an innovative plan for the School’s future that responds to the challenges and opportunities facing higher education today. The successful applicant will manage the budget, recruit faculty, evaluate personnel, oversee the curriculum and assessment, and serve as the liaison between the faculty and the Provost. Interacting with the business community to provide quality experiences for students will also be an important factor.

Applicants must have an earned doctorate appropriate for the work of the School, a record of scholarship and be actively engaged in the academic discipline. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a history of effective full-time teaching. A commitment to a student centered learning environment that promotes success for all students must be evidenced as well as a commitment to the digital learning environment; a passion for an ethical business environment, social responsibility, and advocacy; and an understanding of the role of globalization in the business environment. A successful candidate is expected to be able to demonstrate excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills. In addition, successful candidates will have held administrative positions of progressively greater responsibility qualifying them for the position of dean.

This is a full-time benefits eligible position. Qualified candidate will be subject to a criminal history check before a written offer will be made. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Consideration of candidates will begin immediately. The search will remain open until December 15, 2012. The new Dean is expected to take office on or about July 1, 2012.
