On behalf of the SPSP Training Committee and the SPSP Graduate Student Council, I am pleased to announce the Training Preconference of the upcoming SPSP meeting.  The Training Preconference will take place on Thursday, January 17, 2013 in New Orleans, LA from 8:00am to 4:30pm.

We are pleased to offer a low registration rate of $50. 

The title of this year's Preconference is "Building a Positive Career Trajectory: Skills that are Rarely Taught."  Nine accomplished academics (Jessica Tracy, Kathryn Morris, Bertram Gawronski, C. David Navarrete, C. Nathan DeWall, Margo Monteith, Anne Wilson, Mark Landau, and Norbert Schwarz) will each talk about the challenges, opportunities, and skills involved in  important career transitions and goals.  Topics to be discussed include: Transitioning from graduate student to assistant professor, Establishing a lab, Selecting and recruiting graduate students, and Helping your students publish, among others.  Our goal is to offer guidance and information on a broad range of skills that are essential for building a positive career, but that are difficult to teach in formal instructional settings.  The Preconference will also feature informal table discussions during lunch and a panel discussion.
