Subject: Preconference Applications for 2013 SPSP Meeting

Dear SPSP Colleagues,

The preconference application for the 2013 SPSP meeting in New Orleans is now available and can be found here: http://spspmeeting.org/2013/Meeting/Pre-Conference-Submission.aspx. Applications are due by August 6, 2012.

Because the number of SPSP preconferences has increased dramatically in recent years, there is the possibility that the number of groups that wish to hold a preconference will exceed the amount of space available. If that is the case, the preconference applications will be reviewed by the Program Committee Co-Chairs (Melissa Ferguson and Sanjay Srivastava) and space will be allocated based on considerations such as seniority (whether the preconference is new or one that has been held before) and content overlap with other preconferences. Please note that every effort will be made to accommodate as many preconferences as possible in the existing space that SPSP has reserved at the Morial Convention Center. However, it is always possible for groups to seek out space on their own (e.g., at one of the convention hotels) if they are not allocated free space in the Convention Center.

Questions about the preconference application can be directed to Janet Kearney at jkearney@faseb.org or to Cindy Pickett at cpickett@ucdavis.edu.

Best,

Cindy Pickett

SPSP Convention Committee Chair

Subject: Preconference Organizers and SPSP Org
Any preconference organizers who wish to use the SPSP.org website for their preconference website, please contact SPSP using the "contact us" box. The preconferences have their own area, under "Groups": attendees of preconferences could upload materials, discuss topics, email each other, and so on using the website tools.  The downside: only members of SPSP would have access--but nearly all preconference attendees are likely SPSP members.
