Subject: Postdoc Opening at Chicago Booth

The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Center for Decision Research, is hiring a Postdoctoral Researcher for a period of one to three years, with a starting date of September 2012. The postdoc will serve as a research scientist funded by a grant that was just approved from the John Templeton Foundation and will work on research projects with faculty funded by the grant. In addition, the postdoc will assist in outreach, the development of curricula and websites designed to advance the goals of the grant, and the preparation of reports tracking research progress. We also anticipate hiring a second Postdoctoral Researcher to start in the summer of 2013. We will make a separate announcement and will accept applications for this second position starting in early 2013.

The Center for Decision Research at University of Chicago includes a group of researchers interested in the study of judgment and decision making, social psychology, marketing, and behavioral and experimental economics (Eugene Caruso, Nicholas Epley, Ayelet Fishbach, Reid Hastie, Wilhelm Hofmann, Christopher Hsee, Ann McGill, Devin Pope, Jane Risen, Anuj Shah, Richard Thaler, Oleg Urminsky, Bernd Wittenbrink, and George Wu). The group runs weekly workshop and brownbag seminars. More information on the group and our activities is available at: http://www.chicagocdr.org/.

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise and interest in working with a faculty member sponsored by the grant in one of the following research areas, broadly defined: goals and motivation; abundance and scarcity of resources (e.g., time, money); volunteerism; happiness.

This position is open to candidates who have recently earned their Ph.D. or will defend their Ph.D. by the end of 2012. Expertise in behavioral decision-making research and related areas of social and cognitive psychology is preferred.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, two letters of recommendation, and a cover letter describing their research interests. Selection will be based largely on the applicant's ability to work collaboratively on research with one or more of the Center for Decision Research faculty members. The applicant should indicate one or two faculty members with whom they would be most interested in working. Review of applications will begin on July 15, 2012 and will continue until the position is filled.
