Steve Prentice-Dunn
The Department of Psychology at the University of Alabama is hiring
an assistant professor of teaching to start August 16, 2013, subject to
availability of funding. Responsibilities include teaching 4 courses per
semester and a service commitment to the undergraduate program.
The position is a 3-year renewable contract with an annual
performance review. Although individuals in such positions (called
Clinical/Lecture Track Faculty at the University of Alabama) may not
earn tenure, they are eligible for promotion. Teaching duties will
include large-enrollment undergraduate courses, but also may include
small classes and an occasional opportunity to teach a graduate course.
The service commitment involves coordination of some aspects of
undergraduate advising and supervision of departmental student
organizations. There is no research requirement for this position.
A PhD in psychology is required for the position. Applications should
include a) a letter outlining qualifications (including courses
prepared to teach, list of innovative teaching practices), b) teaching
philosophy statement, c) sample course syllabi, d) evidence of teaching
effectiveness (e.g., summary of numerical and narrative student
evaluations, peer or supervisor observations), e) evidence of
instructional development (e.g. teaching-related workshops attended,
teaching-related conferences and presentations), f) current vitae, and
g) 3-4 letters of recommendation. Application review will begin November
