See What's New at #SPSP2017!

We had a blast with you in San Diego earlier this year, and we hope you will join us in San Antonio for our 2017 convention. While many crowd-pleasing features of the program have remained the same, we also have some new additions for 2017: 

Enhanced Program Design

Last year, professional development sessions and our deep dive workshop gained enormous popularity. Attendees also provided feedback that the poster sessions were very large, and that it was a challenge to consume so much science at once. You spoke, and we listened! The 2017 convention will feature smaller poster sessions running alongside sessions all day, even more professional development, and 7 topic-specific workshops.  Additionally, attendee-driven Pop Up Programming, in which sessions materialize onsite, will be returning this year.

Thursday Night Mingling

Nearly two-thirds of convention attendees precede their convention experience by attending a preconference on Thursday. In the past, the convention kicked off Thursday evening with the presidential plenary, followed by the Welcome Reception in the exhibit hall. This year, the Welcome Reception will begin directly after the preconferences end at 4:30. You’ll have a chance to mix and move around, have a drink, and interact with your colleagues. The Presidential Plenary will kick off the convention science programming the following morning.

Robust Networking Opportunities

Our attendees love the annual convention not just for the science, but also because it offers you the chance to meet and collaborate with others who share your passion. Popular receptions, including the Non-Academic Employee Social Hour, Early Career Mentoring Happy Hour, and the Diversity and Climate Committee Reception will all taking place again this year. We’re also adding a brand new reception for 2017 – the LGBT Networking Reception. With so many options on Friday night, there’s a spot for everyone!
