| Frequently Asked Questions about the SPSP Forums
|
Like many organizations SPSP provides members with the means to communicate easily with other members. In years past, SPSP relied on two list-service messaging systems (announce-l and discuss-l). These two email-based systems were phased out in 2013, replaced with 4 online, forum-based systems. Three of the forums are public forums that can be read by anyone with access to the Internet. The discussion forum can only be read by members.
|
How can I access the forums?
|
1. The SPSP forums are located on the main page of SPSP (http://www.spsp.org).The four forums include:
- Announcements Forum: The primary forum, to be used
for general announcements of interest to members.
- Employment Opportunities Forum: For people to post various types of
employment opportunities.
- Research Opportunities: For people to post information
about ongoing online research projects.
- Discussion Forum:
Where members can discuss professional issues.
2. The Announcement, Employment, and Research Forums of SPSP
are public forums, accessible to both members and nonmembers of SPSP. Members
and nonmembers can read the posts online, at SPSP.org, and they may also
subscribe via RSS feeds.

Can I continue to receive forum messages via email?
|
1. Members of SPSP can have postings at the Forum sent to
them via email, thereby mimicking the experience of a traditional listserv
system. Here's how to do that:
a. First, sign into your SPSP.org account.
b. Visit each of the Forum pages. There you can choose to
have postings at the Forum sent to you via email.
- Pick "subscribe to digest" if you want to
receive a single email, periodically, summarizing multiple postings.
- Pick "subscribe to instant updates" if you want
to receive each posting as a separate email when it is posted.
- You can also manage your subscriptions on your
"manage profile" page. After you log in, click "Manage
Profile" on the right side of the screen and then click
"Subscriptions" (under Community) on the next page.
2. Individuals who are not SPSP members can read postings
online but (a) they cannot post to the Forum or (b) receive posts via email.
They can, however, subscribe via RSS feeds. Nonmembers who wish to post a
message to the forum can submit their message via the SPSP.org website, but
their message will be moderated.
3. Please post to the "correct" Forum. Any announcements about employment or requests for participants for research posted to the Announcements Forum will be deleted. (They will not be moved to the correct forum--you will need to repost them yourself). |
I am not a member of SPSP. Can I post a message to one of the Forums?
|
If you are not a member of SPSP, you can read the announcements, employment, and research opportunities forums, but you cannot post messages to them. If you wish to submit a posting, please visit the Submit a Message to an SPSP Forum page and submit your message request. Your message will be reviewed prior to posting. |
Please remember the rules of using these forums.
|
L | Like APA, SPSP prohibits postings primarily for "commercial use.” "Commercial use" includes communications whose "primary purpose is to advance the business or financial interests of any person or entity or otherwise to promote a financial transaction for the benefit of the author directly or indirectly. Examples of prohibited communications include advertisements for products or services, notices regarding rental or office space, or direct solicitation to purchase products or services. Announcements that provide useful professional information to members but may also have some incidental commercial benefit to the sender (e.g. an author who is a list member merely advising the List of publication of a professional book) typically would not be "commercial” for purposes of this restriction. |
| Because it is a 501(c)(3) organization, political endorsements are not allowed to be posted on the Society’s Forums. |
| Although the Society does not advocate censorship, the Society has the discretion to prohibit communications that are unprofessional or unconstructive on the forums.
